This Verification Of Competency (VOC) tests the skills and knowledge required to operate a Scissor lift under 11m operations  (Western Australia Only)

The VOC applies to those working in a site based roles.

The VOC is essential if you are conducting the operation of a Scissor lift mobile plant.  The VOC covers the operational procedures of the equipment, This VOC does not cover equipment over 11m and is not a Licence to operate which is not required for equipment under 11m in WA.

The course covers:

Basic principles of health and safety in the construction industries in WA.

Preventing workplace injuries and illnesses

Identifying workplace hazards

Hazard control measures

Choosing the right machine

Pre and post operational checks

Setting up the machine

Operating the machine

Shut down and secure procedures

Relevant WHS Requirements and Duty of Care


It encompasses responsibilities for, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.


Completing the verification of competency will confirm an individual's skills and knowledge to carry out and complete the use of an Scissor lift and ensure procedures and to perform safe work practices. It consists of real-life practical skills and knowledge to allow the participant to be assessed as competent in demonstrating the ability to operate equipment and/or undertake Scissor lift operator role.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours

Entry Requirements

Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including prestart check of equipment and setup of barriers (Important note: To issue a verification of competency certificate all theory and practical must be completed).

Physical fitness – Participants must have the physical capacity to complete a practical demonstration of a simulated dig at a construction site location.

Theory: Students must be able to respond verbally to questioned asked by the assessor / subject matter expert to complete the pre-course theory questions. Students must also be able to show a log book with a minimum of 50 hours practical training within there employment.
